A Three-Day Fantasy-Inspired Elopement in California | Sequoia, Yosemite & Big Bear

If you’ve ever dreamed of a wedding that feels like stepping into another world—this is it.

Elizabeth and Sean’s three-day elopement in California was a fully immersive experience inspired by high fantasy storytelling, ancient forests, and intentional connection. From exchanging vows beneath towering sequoias to sunrise portraits in Yosemite and a Ren Faire-inspired reception in Big Bear, every part of their celebration was deeply personal, wildly creative, and rooted in adventure.

If you’re searching for California elopement inspiration, Sequoia National Park wedding ideas, or how to plan a multi-day elopement experience, this one is for you.

Day One: A Sequoia National Park Elopement Ceremony

Day one was spent slow and intentionally. Elizabeth got ready with her closest friends, who helped style her hair and hand-wrap her bouquets, while Sean spent the morning getting ready with his guys.

Elizabeth’s entire look was inspired by a high fantasy, forest-royalty aesthetic. Her gown featured custom sleeves, and her seamstress hand-painted delicate leaf appliqués in shades of green, giving the dress an ethereal, woodland feel. Sean wore a ring inspired by The Lord of the Rings, while Elizabeth carried details reminiscent of the elven leaf brooch worn by the Fellowship. These were the small touches that made their day feel like stepping into a storybook.

They exchanged vows in Sequoia National Park beneath a giant sequoia tree, surrounded by golden sunlight and patches of lingering snow. Their ceremony included personal vows, communion and a meaningful gift exchange. Elizabeth gifted Sean a journal she had been writing in for a year filled with memories, love notes, and photos from their relationship. Sean gifted her a black crown, symbolizing that she is his queen.

After their ceremony, we headed back into town for a relaxed meal at The Gateway Restaurant, just minutes from where they were staying at Buckeye Tree Lodge; a perfect home base for a Sequoia elopement.

Day Two: Sunrise Elopement Photos in Yosemite National Park

Day two started before sunrise with us meeting at 5 a.m. and driving into the mountains of Yosemite National Park in complete darkness, chasing that soft blue hour light. We arrived at Tunnel View just in time for sunrise, and it was absolutely unreal. No crowds, soft wind, golden light breaking over the valley—pure magic.

Elizabeth and Sean changed by their car and leaned fully into the adventure. Having never visited Yosemite before, this day became part elopement session, part exploration. We spent the morning photographing at iconic overlooks and visiting hidden, lesser-known spots before heading to the visitor center. There we grabbed some souvenirs, stamped their national park books, and reset before heading to a nearby waterfall for more portraits.

Before leaving Yosemite National Park, they shared a cupcake beside a quiet river and grabbed photos by the park sign—because you have to.

And then, in the most California way possible, we wrapped the day at In-N-Out Burger with burgers, fries, and milkshakes. For two California natives, it was the perfect ending.

From there, we made our way to Big Bear to prepare for the final day of their celebration.

Day Three: Renaissance Faire Wedding Reception in Big Bear

The final day brought everything together with a full celebration with family and friends at Gold Mountain Manor in Big Bear, California.

Guests welcomed Elizabeth and Sean with a bubble-filled entrance before heartfelt speeches filled the space with laughter and stories from every chapter of their relationship. They shared a first dance together, a father-daughter dance between Elizabeth and her dad, followed by communion and worship with their community.

After a relaxed cocktail-style hour filled with games and mingling, Elizabeth and Sean changed into full Ren Faire attire, fully embracing the fantasy theme that defined their entire elopement.

Guests bonded over shared memories, D&D campaigns, karaoke, dancing, desserts form Crust and Crumble Bakery and years of friendship—ending the night in the most authentic, joy-filled way.

Elizabeth and Sean’s experience is the perfect example of why multi-day elopements in California are becoming so popular. Instead of squeezing everything into a single timeline, they created space for intentional moments, meaningful experiences, exploration, adventure and time with both each other and their community.

From a Sequoia National Park elopement to Yosemite sunrise portraits and a Big Bear wedding reception, their story truly encompasses not just a wedding, but a whole adventure.
