Back in the day elopements were known as the “escape route” wedding. They were for couples who had no other option because their families or society frowned on their matrimony. This was also around the time that women weren’t allowed to vote and segregation was legal. So, that might help put things into perspective. Heck, even Merriam-Webster is changing the definition of “elope to a “small destination wedding.”
The old idea of eloping being for shame-filled lovers or runaways needs to be revisited.
Nowadays, elopements are defined by two people with a resolute intention, choosing not to compromise their love for the sake of tradition.
Eloping means intentionally choosing love over stress, drama, and familial or societal pressures and expectations.
Eloping means stripping away the production, stress and pressures of a bigger, traditional wedding and boiling it down to what really matters — a day focused solely around committing your lives to one another in a way that is freeing and intentional; a day that is intimate, meaningful, authentic and deeply reflects your relationship.

Choosing her for our day was one of the best decisions we made for our entire day. We live in North Carolina but wanted to choose a location in Oregon or Washington. Katie was incredibly professional and communicative throughout the whole process and checked in regularly the months leading up to our elopement date. On the actual day she was fun (even at 3am when we started hiking) and made us feel super comfortable being photographed. She strikes a great balance between giving direction and helping us find range in poses, but also allowing the poses to come organically from us. Our final images came out better than I could have imagined and really captured us in an authentic way.

Hiring Katie for our wedding and engagement photos was easily the BEST decision that we made for our big day!
My husband and I had quite a few setbacks during the planning stages of our wedding- COVID, having to reschedule our wedding multiple times, canceling our large wedding and eloping, and weather challenges. With each occurrence, Katie was flexible, understanding, and always had a plan of action to put us at ease. She really takes the time to get to know you as a couple to really make sure your personality shines and you get the exact vibes that you want! She came in as a photographer but left us as a great friend.

Being a bride during Covid times was not ideal. Our plans changed 2 weeks before we were supposed to get married when we decided to elope instead. When it came to our elopement, she helped us slow down and think about what our ideal day would include and how we wanted it to feel. Her advice helped us connect and experience our day together in a way that felt relaxed, truly meaningful and most importantly – fun! she was the best investment and I will always be grateful for all that she did to make our last-minute elopement so special and for the images we will be able to cherish forever.
